In addition to our regular tithes and offerings, we have a special opportunity to help Christians in need. Our goal is to raise £1500 for Christians facing severe financial difficulty in South Africa. Here's the background:
Due to the total lockdown that South Africa is now under, as of midnight Thursday the 26th of March, many people’s income has dried up literally overnight. Majority of the South African population still live below the bread line. If they are not able to go out to work, then they are unable to earn any money and, therefore, do not have any means to buy food and electricity. There is no state support structure that can assist these people and since they have been living hand to mouth they do not have any form of savings to tap into.
This is indeed the case with many of our fellow Every Nation congregations in South Africa. We have been made aware of some families in the Retreat, Fish Hoek and surrounding southern suburbs in Cape Town who suddenly find themselves in a desperate situation and are unable to feed their families.
With the current exchange rate, the pound is very strong against the South African Rand and so any little bit of help from us here will go a long way over there. It will only take about £100 to feed a family of 5 people for a month and we feel that this would be a good opportunity to reach out and help those to whom the lock down situation is actually having a detrimental effect.
