We were created for worship; we get ultimate ‘lift’ in life when God is the object of our worship.
But our problem is the tendency to worship other things. The issue is that we are defined by what we worship. God is the creator, He is eternal, and He is perfect; worshipping him draws us into a participation with the eternal, perfect God. Alternatively, we can worship non-God, the creation, which is temporary and imperfect.
In Psalms 95 and 100, we are told to Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise; to come, worship and bow down before him. Three key words help us understand what is at stake in worship:
